‘Therapy is not just a way of thinking, but a way of living’
If you’re reading this profile, it may be because you are hurting, feeling anxious, depressed, sad, lonely, angry, stuck or maybe ashamed; wishing these painful uncomfortable feelings to go away and disappear. It may be because you are experiencing a loss, sudden diagnosis or just looking for general support.
Throughout life we navigate many different experiences, and often how we respond to these situations can feel out of our control.
Regardless of your reason, my goal is to provide you with a space where we will explore with curiosity the way to create movement and change that could help you to achieve your hopes and wishes in life.
Therapy with Valérie Lemétayer
I am registered with BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and can speak either French or English during our online and in-person sessions.
As a therapist, it’s my honour to be a part of my client’s therapeutic journey.
I will listen to you, hear you, guide you, support you and encourage you using my personal experience and my professional knowledge.
Therapy in French and English
I have done all my training in English and currently, two thirds of my clients are French speakers. I have found that giving you the possibility to use different language in session can be a bonus and a precious tool. Saying for example « I love you « and « je t’aime « can be different emotionally and psychologically. This is why I offer therapy in French as an option.
A little bit more about me..
I was born in Paris and from early childhood, experienced many challenging situations I had to learn to adapt to. After moving to Liverpool in my 20s I found myself having to adapt to my new environment, feeling very alone (due to not yet speaking English) and carrying a mixed polarity of emotions.
Through my experiences of life, career, being a wife and neurodivergent, I became a better listener and a more empathetic person. But mainly, I have developed a curiosity and fascination to try to understand why we become who we are as individuals.
In my 40s, I realised I wanted to share everything I have been able to learn and everything that has been preciously gifted to me through my life experience, reading, education and alongside my journey with personal & couples therapy. It was time for me to try to bring to others, what therapy has brought and still brings to me.

Testimonials
Below is some anonymous feedback from clients which you might find helpful:
“The counselling with Valérie has really helped me increase my confidence and improve my relationships. Valérie is very approachable and put me at ease right from the start. She is very encouraging and has helped me find ways to get the most out of life and enjoy things that are important to me.”
“I am so grateful for my counselling sessions. I believe it was fate that I got the help I needed, and Valérie is like my life saver. I will be for ever grateful to her. She truly is an angel who has help me so much when I needed it.”
“I have had depression from my early childhood, I am now in my in my mid-thirties. I will always have depression and I know that it will always be a part of me but I now know it doesn’t have to be in control of me and it isn’t for the first time in decades.”
“I grew up with physical, emotional and sexual abuse, I became shy, withdrawn, nervous, voiceless, worthless and suicidal, then as I grew up this all was mixed with anger, aggression and exhaustion of trying so hard to keep it all together. I thought counselling wouldn’t help, having to open up to a stranger, tell them all your shameful secrets and feel worthless all over again, but this was my last option. I called and met Valérie who I met for an hour every week for a year. Valérie listened, showed me techniques to get rid of the anger, face feelings I never knew I had felt and let me know it wasn’t my shame to keep, that this wasn’t my fault, that I am not worthless and that I have somewhere to go and figure things through. I can cope better because I know how to, and I know I can always go back; this is the best I have felt in years and its thanks to Valérie and the support she provides. Counselling really worked for me, I didn’t think that it would but 1 year later, I have a more positive outlook, I don’t dread waking up, I sleep. I do things. I have a life that I enjoy.”
