Somatic Experiencing Practitioner
Do you sense that there is more of you available than you can currently reach? Perhaps you can feel the outline of a life, creative practice, relationship or way of inhabiting yourself that wants to emerge, while something repeatedly pulls you back, shuts down or becomes overwhelmed.
Past trauma, repeated adaptation and the conditions we live under can constrict our access to energy, desire, voice and action.
Somatic work cannot make oppressive conditions disappear, and it should not train you to tolerate what harms or diminishes you. It can help you notice how these experiences are carried in your body, loosen what has become fixed and recover more choice in how you meet your life.
Somatic Experiencing with Esmat Ahmadian
I offer somatic sessions for adults who want to explore their lives through the body as well as through words. Together, we slow things down enough to notice what happens before your familiar response takes over: a sensation, an emotion, a change in posture, an impulse to move towards something or pull away. By staying close to what is actually happening, possibilities can emerge that thinking alone may not have been able to reach.
This is not a quick fix. I work best with people who are curious about themselves and willing to participate in an ongoing process. You do not need to arrive calm, articulate or already connected to your body. You do need some willingness to notice, experiment and allow change to happen at a pace your body can genuinely hold.
Who I work with
I particularly enjoy working with neurodivergent people; gay men; queer, trans and nonbinary people; queers and femmes of colour; people from working-class backgrounds; artists and performers; activists, organisers and people shaping change; and fellow freaks—people who claim that word for themselves, carve out their own paths and find ways of dressing, creating, loving and living that make them feel more alive.
I am drawn to people who question the forms they have been given and who do not want to sacrifice what is most alive in them simply to become more acceptable. Your identity may shape the work, but it does not have to become the problem we are trying to solve. You can bring relationships, family, sex, grief, anxiety, work, money, creative blocks, body image, belonging, ambition or a transition you cannot yet put into words.
How I work
Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach that allows us to work with the nervous system without forcing you to relive everything that has happened. Sessions involve conversation, but we also pay attention to sensations, emotions, images, impulses, breath and movement. We notice both what is difficult and what already offers support.
I bring warmth, directness and a certain amount of fire to this work. I do not believe intensity is always something to extinguish. We can learn to step towards it without being consumed by it, discover what it is trying to protect and distinguish the energy of being alive from the alarm of an old experience.
There can be a quiet kind of magic in this process: something that has felt immovable begins to shift, an impulse becomes understandable, or you discover that you can remain with yourself somewhere you previously had to disconnect.
The aim is not to turn you into a permanently calm, well-adjusted version of yourself. It is to develop more capacity to be here, to meet intensity without abandoning yourself and to act with greater choice. The work is not only about feeling better. It can also be about becoming more able to live, create, love, risk and take up space as yourself.
About me
I am neurodivergent, queer, nonbinary trans and German-Iranian. I know something from within about living across categories, negotiating visibility and searching for forms that do not require parts of us to disappear. This informs how I work, without assuming that your experience is the same as mine.
My first field was Fine Art, and I hold a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts. That background remains present in my practice through my attention to texture, rhythm, contradiction and experiences that cannot immediately be explained.
I am a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and an assistant on Somatic Experiencing training programmes. I have worked with clients across several hundred individual sessions and am an approved provider of personal sessions for SE trainees. My work is also informed by Bodynamic, Integral Somatic Psychology and ongoing supervision and professional development.
