I believe that everyone has the potential to lead fulfilling lives; however, life at times can feel difficult to navigate. Whether this is due to an overwhelming reaction to a life event or a general sense of dissatisfaction, counselling/psychotherapy can help you to move forward with your life and enable you to make new choices and experience a different way of living that is more fulfilling and rewarding.
Counselling and Psychotherapy with Satya McBirnie MBACP (Accred)
I’m a Humanistic Counsellor/Psychotherapist with extensive experience of working with people troubled by a wide range of issues including anxiety, panic, stress, depression, bereavement, trauma and relationship and addiction issues.
I believe that one of the most powerful sources of help is the relationship you can build with a counsellor/psychotherapist. In this unique relationship I offer myself as an empathetic, compassionate and trustworthy person, willing to explore with you whatever is troubling you.
We are all impacted by both our relationships with others (primary care givers, siblings, friends, lovers, colleagues), and our relationship with the environment (socio-economic, religion, cultural, political). All of these influences affect how we see ourselves and how we relate to others, as well as the choices we make and how we manage our emotions.
I value and respect every individual’s unique qualities and experiences and am continually awed by people’s courage and ability to change and grow as human beings.
Areas I work with:
- Abuse (current or past)
- Addiction and dependency
- Anxiety and panic
- Bereavement and grief
- Lack of life direction
- Loneliness & feelings of islolation
- Relationship issues
- Self-Esteem / low confidence
- Social anxiety
I have been working for many years in private practice supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. I also work part time supervising counsellors in a community alcohol service. I have extensive experience of working with individuals struggling with addiction, focusing on exploring the underlying issues that have resulted in the use of substances as a coping mechanism.
