“Knowing oneself comes from attending with compassionate curiosity to what is happening within” – Gabor Mate
Starting therapy can be a brave step.
At the heart of my practice, I offer a warm, collaborative, and supportive space in which to talk freely, and explore whatever it is you wish to bring.
This could be any number of issues. Maybe you are struggling with anxiety or depression, or encountering difficulties in your relationship. Or perhaps you are feeling lost or ‘stuck’ in life, and are not sure how to move forward.
Regardless of what you’re dealing with, you don’t have to face it alone.
Together, we can work to understand the deeper roots of the problem, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and help you develop healthier ways of coping.
Psychotherapy with Olivia Lang MBACP
Here are some of the issues that clients come for support with:
Dealing with anxiety and panic:
I often work with those with anxiety, rumination, and/or panic. Anxious thoughts and feelings can interfere with our lives and be hard to manage on your own. If these issues are affecting you, I can support you with the aim of uncovering what lies at the heart of it, and assist you as you gradually work through this, allowing for more ease in daily life.
Navigating boundaries:
Do you find it hard to say no, or find yourself overly pleasing others? Would you like to develop healthier boundaries with colleagues, family members or friends? I can help you as you explore your patterns and gain greater clarity and confidence, as well as learn ways to communicate better.
Recovering from childhood trauma or abuse:
Are there unresolved issues in the past affecting your life? Many clients come to me for help recovering from abuse, dysfunction, neglect or trauma. I seek to provide a safe space where you can start to find the words for your story, and slowly process difficult emotional experiences, at a pace set by you.
Working towards secure attachment or healthier relationships:
Do you struggle with dating or relationships? Many of us desire a loving relationship, but not everyone has a model for what that looks like. I work with a knowledge of attachment theory, with the goal of helping you identify underlying issues that might be coming into play and move towards more secure ways of relating.
Managing stress and/or recovering from burnout:
As a former news journalist, I understand the demands of working in high-pressure environments, and how stress can accumulate over time and impact other areas of life. If you are struggling to balance your life or ‘put down’ your work despite feelings of overwhelm, I can support you in finding a way forward.
Supporting change and transitions:
It could be the end of a relationship, or the loss of a job. It could be moving house, or countries. Or maybe you know that something in your life needs to change, but you’re not sure what. Life is rarely simple, and sometimes we can benefit from a helping hand as we navigate and move between different phases of our lives.
Relationship Therapy
I also offer relationship therapy to couples or intimate partners who feel stuck in unhelpful patterns or are wanting to strengthen and deepen their relationship. My trauma-informed, IFS-informed approach helps each partner understand the protective parts that arise in moments of stress, so that tensions or difficulties become something you can navigate together rather than something that pulls you apart. I aim to create a space where both people feel heard, respected, and supported in building greater emotional safety and connection.
How I Work:
I take a trauma-informed integrative approach, blending psychodynamic, humanistic, somatic, IFS (Internal Family Systems) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques. I believe everyone is unique, and adapt the work accordingly.
I view therapy as a collaborative process and I invite clients to make the space their own. I seek to provide a deeply empathic arena for self-exploration, while also offering a level of gentle challenge when appropriate. I often work with the body to release trauma.
I invite clients to write down thoughts and feelings in a journal if they are happy to do so, and I also share articles and book recommendations for those who would like this.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in journalism, and have worked in many different cultures. I welcome difference and diversity in my practice and work with adults of all ages from all backgrounds.
I provide sessions in-person or online, and offer time-limited and open-ended therapy.
I have limited spaces available for couples. Please reach out for more information
