Reasons for Considering individual Psychotherapy & Counselling with Nadine Dixon
I am a fully qualified and accredited integrative psychotherapist. I welcome all adults and young people to my practice. By encouraging a collaborative partnership between us, I wish to support you to feel better and help you lead a more fulfilling life.
I also wish to promote and nurture healing within, by providing a safe environment to explore what may be bringing you to therapy at this time in your life. There may be many reasons for you considering therapy. You may feel that you would benefit from support and having a confidential environment where you can unburden your troubles, to speak freely about anything that comes to your mind.
Areas I work with:
Some of the areas I have worked with as a psychotherapist and counsellor include, though are not limited to:
- Anxiety, panic & stress
- Body image & food issues
- Depression
- Emotional & domestic abuse
- Feeling Overwhelmed, isolated and stuck
- Grief, loss & bereavement
- Relationships and intimacy
- Self-Esteem, Self Worth & identity
- Self-Harm
- Work related issues
The way I work and therapies I offer
I offer both short-term and long-term therapy. My intentions are to help you develop self-compassion and encourage a sense of self-acceptance. I hope therapy with me will support you to feel calmer, less stressed and to make sense of your life.
Integrative Psychotherapy
I work as a compassionate integrative psychotherapist. I’m mindful of and individually tailor a blend of therapeutic approaches. These include a humanistic, relational, person-centred, approach, which focuses on your strengths and offers a non-judgmental stance to support a stronger, healthier sense of self, understand your feelings and to help gain a sense of meaning in life. I also integrate a psychodynamic way of working, which focusses on early life experiences and the affect these may have on current adult life.
Arts Psychotherapy
Sometimes, words are not enough and as we go about our daily lives, we may not be aware how our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviours are affected by our past experiences. Our memories can create self-limiting patterns in our relationships and our ways of being in the world. When working with arts psychotherapy, (for example: using the language of somatic sensations, various art materials or creative writing) this can provide us with the potential for our unconscious to be expressed and reflected upon, while held, safely, within the arts. It may be helpful to know that there is no need for you to have had any previous arts experience or artistic skills to engage with arts psychotherapy.
Bereavement Counselling
I have a special interest and considerable experience as a counsellor with bereavement, grief and loss. I work with people who have experienced many different kinds of bereavements, for instance the loss of a parent, child or sibling and bereavement through suicide.
Psychotherapy Qualifications and Training:
I trained over four years at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education, completing their comprehensive and intensive course. My qualifications include an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy. I hold additional qualifications in Counselling Skills and a Postgraduate Certificate in the Therapeutic Arts.
I am a MBACP member and accredited by the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). I follow standards of proficiency. I have regular supervision with a UKCP registered supervisor and am committed to ongoing professional development. I’m also a registered member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education (IATE) abiding by an ethical framework..
Contact:
I prefer to spend 5 or so minutes on the phone, briefly discussing what has brought you to seek therapy at this time in your life, any history of previous therapy and scheduling preferences. I believe within that time we can begin to recognise if we’re a good fit and how we may work together. During our first session we’ll talk in greater detail about your history, life situation and intentions for therapy.
