I have been working with healing therapies since 1986 and discovered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) on my personal journey and only wish I had discovered it sooner. Understanding that your thoughts are not necessarily the truth is a truly liberating experience!
Life can have challenges and setbacks which feel overwhelming. As a warm and encouraging CBT therapist I can help you to manage the difficult emotions and behaviours that may lead to ill health if left unchecked.
I work to support you through challenging times, and teach you CBT skills to allow you to understand the triggers and demands driving your feelings. By learning to process your thoughts in a more helpful way, you can break free from your problems and move towards your goals.
CBT with Lucy Blair
CBT is an umbrella term for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy and the more recent ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). CBT teaches us how to view our life in a more rational way and that by changing our thoughts and actions we can change our feelings, and improve the quality of our life.
I trained and qualified in CBT/REBT and use techniques from all 3 modalities as well as other forms of therapy. REBT/CBT takes a structured form, and is often completed in 6 – 10 sessions depending on the severity of the problem. Sessions are collaborative and we set goals at the start, dealing with one problem at a time. You don’t have to be facing a serious challenge to start CBT – it is a wonderful tool for everyone.
In the first session I briefly explain how CBT/REBT works, take a full history and we set some guide goals. Important past events can help explain behaviors, but in subsequent sessions we focus on how we move towards our goals – rather than how we got here. Each session is 60 minutes long.
My approach is informal, with an engaged, positive and sometimes directional approach. I find humour helpful where appropriate, as well as mindfulness and guided meditation. CBT recommends an immersive approach and commitment to practising and reading about the concepts in between sessions helps speed up the process.
Please call me if you would like to discuss how CBT can work for you.
Personal Background
I grew up in central London and after a varied career in Advertising, Hospitality, Fashion and PR I qualified as an Aromatherapist when it was new and exciting back in 1986. I went on to develop a successful business formulating and selling aromatherapy gifts to the hospitality industry. I have always been interested in how the mind works, and loved the fact that essential oils could be used to treat both body AND mind and encourage people to take charge of their physical and emotional health. I take a holistic approach and am happy to give advice about essential oils and flower remedies which help to soothe and balance the mind. I am also very interested in how our diet can affect our emotions.
