Maybe you know why you need support or maybe you just know that while everything seems fine, something feels wrong. In either case I can help.
I am an accredited, qualified and experienced integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, motivated by a lifelong curiosity in people and a belief in their capacity to heal and develop.
In addition to my private practice I have extensive experience in working in the voluntary sector where I supported people for 17 years.
Psychotherapy and Counselling with Jane Dawson
I aim to offer a safe place where you can talk, and we can reflect upon your life together. Initially, I will help you contain and manage your distress or symptoms. Then we will jointly explore your past and current experience, hopefully providing inspiration and challenging you to gain greater understanding, direction and self-confidence. You are likely to become more aware of the impact of your past events on your current experience, and the underlying reasons behind your thoughts, feelings and the dynamics in your relationships. Our work will also provide an opportunity for you to work through and process the effects of past trauma and loss. We will then work as a team to ensure that you make any changes that you think are necessary in your life.
As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I have been trained in a variety of theoretical approaches, and I adapt my approach to the needs of each individual person. Rather than adhere rigidly to one set of theories and techniques, I draw from an array of different theories and ideas from the fields of traditional psychoanalysis and contemporary psychodynamic theory, developmental research, psychology and existential philosophy. I also refer to a body of knowledge developed for specialist areas such as working with trauma, bereavement or dementia.
