Life is full of twists and turns that can throw us off track. And with so much turmoil in the world right now, it can feel like there are even more potential threats to our sense of peace and stability and our mental health.
Therapy provides a place of calm in which we can unpack and make sense of our experiences and the world around us. It takes courage, but the insights we gain can be life-changing.
I experienced my own ‘twist in the road’ as a teenager that could have permanently thrown my life off-course. Therapy enabled me to reconnect with feelings and parts of myself that I had buried and to emerge stronger and more self-aware. My work as a therapist is fueled by a passionate desire to offer others the same opportunity.
Integrative Psychotherapy with Rachel Joseph
How we can work together
I provide a calm, warm and welcoming space, where you can step away from the day-to-day and take time to reflect.
In our work together, we will focus on what you are interested in exploring and the changes you want to bring to your life.
As your therapist, I will be by your side to accompany you on your journey, helping you to contain feelings that come up as they emerge and exploring the new insights and perspectives that arise. We will work towards building a relationship of trust that can be an anchor, to help you feel grounded and safe throughout the process.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including psycho-dynamic, humanistic and CBT.
Areas of focus:
Like all journeys, therapy can take us to unexpected places. It is not uncommon for clients to set out to explore one area of their lives, only to find that what emerges in their sessions is something quite different. We can work dynamically to explore whatever comes up for you from week to week.
Here are some of the themes that often come up in my client work:
Bereavement, grief and loss
I was first drawn to therapy following an unexpected and traumatic loss during my childhood. From my own experience, I know that the pain of grief can hollow us out and leave us feeling as if we have lost all our bearings on life. Loss comes in many forms, and triggers different feelings for each of us. Yet, by creating space for our feelings to be voiced, heard and felt in therapy, we can start the process of integrating the loss into a new sense of life.
Transitions:
Our lives are in a constant state of flux which can force us to face difficult feelings around the nature of existence – particularly our lack of control, uncertainty and endings. This has come into sharp focus with the climate crisis and global political uncertainty. Whatever transition you may be facing – perhaps a relationship coming to an end or a significant anniversary – we can work together to unpack the meaning it holds for you, so that you can move forward with a greater sense of agency, direction, and peace.
Relationships:
We are social beings and connection and community are essential for our emotional wellbeing. Yet our world of screens and remote working is increasing isolation and making it harder for us to develop relationships. In our work together, we can explore any issues that might be coming up in your relationships, and also look back at your primary attachments in early life to see how they may have influenced your sense of yourself and how you relate to others.
Although much of my client work falls into these broad themes, I also work with issues related to:
- Anger
- Panic attacks
- Self-esteem
- Body image
- Depression
- Identity
- Neuro-divergence
- Addiction
- Bereavement, & loss
- Career problems & changes
- Sexuality and intimacy
- Parenting
- Loneliness and isolation
- Family issues
My background and how I work:
