You might be thinking about therapy because something in your life isn’t working the way you want it to.
On the surface, things might look fine. You’re working, getting on with life, keeping things moving. But underneath, it can feel like something’s off.
- You might be questioning your direction, your relationships, or what you’re doing with your life.
- You might be dealing with difficult feelings such as anxiety, stress, low mood, or frustration, and relying on things like alcohol or other habits just to take the edge off.
- You may have experienced, or be going through, a significant change, such as a loss, that’s difficult to process and adjust to.
- Perhaps work feels intense or uncertain right now.
Sometimes there isn’t a clear reason, just a sense that something isn’t quite right.
Therapy offers a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and find a way forward that works for you.
Psychotherapy & Counselling with Chris Jones (MBACP)
Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to keep it together, have it all figured out, or even know the ‘right’ words.
I work in a way that is:
- Engaged and down to earth – working with what’s actually going on for you, not just theory
- Straightforward and honest – open, real conversations about what’s happening beneath the surface
- At your pace – giving things the time and space they need, without pressure
- Pragmatic and focused on change – not just understanding difficulties, but finding ways to respond differently
- Relational – paying attention to what shows up between us, as well as outside of the room
- Creative – using imagination and experimenting with alternative ways forward
Together, we might:
- Make sense of patterns in your relationships or behaviour
- Understand what’s going on beneath the surface
- Explore how you respond to pressure, expectations, or responsibility
- Find practical ways to handle things differently in day-to-day life
There’s space here both for deeper reflection and for finding approaches that feel genuinely helpful in the real world.
Areas I work with:
I work with people who are trying to make sense of experiences such as:
- Pressure at work or feeling stuck in your career
- Relationship difficulties, breakups, infidelity, or repeating patterns
- Anxiety, worry, or feeling constantly on edge
- Obsessive-compulsive tendencies
- Traumatic life experiences
- Stress, burnout, or feeling like you have to hold everything together
- Substance use that’s becoming difficult to manage
- Big life changes, loss, or uncertainty about what’s next
Working with men
A big part of my work is with men.
Men who are used to getting on with things.
Men who carry responsibility, pressure, or expectation, often without talking about it.
You might be used to pushing through or handling things on your own. There can be a pressure to stay in control and not show vulnerability.
Messages around masculinity, success, and self-reliance can make it harder to recognise when something isn’t working or to reach out for support. Over time, things can build up leading to stress, frustration, anxiety, or a sense of disconnection.
Therapy offers a space to step out of that, make sense of what’s going on, and find ways of handling things that feel more manageable and sustainable.
Working with anxiety
Anxiety can show up in different ways – feeling constantly on edge, overthinking, struggling to switch off, or feeling overwhelmed by pressure or expectation.
Often, it’s not just the anxiety itself, but how you relate to it that keeps things going – trying to control it, avoid it, or push through it.
In our work together, we can begin to understand how anxiety shows up for you, both in your thoughts and in your body, and what might be maintaining it.
From there, we can explore ways of responding differently – not by trying to get rid of anxiety altogether, but by building a different relationship with it so it has less impact on your day-to-day life.
This might include developing awareness, experimenting with new ways of responding, and finding approaches that feel realistic and workable for you.
Working with athletes and performers
Having been an athlete before training as a therapist, I have a particular interest in working with athletes and people whose lives involve performance, pressure, and a strong sense of identity tied to what they do.
I understand what it’s like to:
- Push yourself constantly
- Tie your sense of self to performance
- Navigate pressure, setbacks, and expectations
- Experience the impact when that identity shifts or is disrupted
This can show up through injury, transitions, loss of form, or uncertainty about what comes next.
I know how unsettling it can be when your sense of self is closely tied to what you do, and how difficult it is when that changes.
