Hello, I’m Nardine. I set up my practice to reach out to individuals who struggle to feel at home within themselves, or in their communities.
Psychotherapy with Nardine Khalil | Therapy in Arabic & English
I am passionate about using creative approaches to therapy and body movement to help us understand our unconscious processes and physical responses. I specialise in working with individuals who struggle with identity issues due to factors of race, religion, politics, culture or language; individuals who feel like they don’t belong, and individuals who have complicated relationships with their bodies.
I integrate elements of psychodynamic psychotherapy alongside dramatherapy. That means that I weave physical movement, art, and metaphor into talking therapy to enable you to connect your thoughts and feelings to your body, and bring awareness to your unconscious process.
Sometimes clients find it easier to talk in their mother tongue and so I offer therapy in Arabic as well as English.
Working with Children and Adolescents in Therapy
I’ve worked as a school counsellor with children and adolescents in primary school through to sixth-form. I work with children and young people experiencing difficulties from anxiety to eating disorders and self-harm. I use play, art and body movement to help children and young people work through their difficulties. Play is particularly important for younger children to understand the world around them and how they fit into it, whilst art and body movement is essential for adolescents who are experiencing a changing relationship to their body.
Working with Arabic Speaking Individuals in Therapy
As an Anglo-Arab who has lived in both cultures, I work with individuals who are looking for therapy that is informed about Arab culture and the different types of conflict whether it is about religion, politics, or social issues. I explore with you identity, belonging, attachment, trauma and loss. As an Arabic speaking therapist, clients are welcome to speak in English or Arabic or to combine both.
Areas I work with
I work with a variety of issues, among them identity issues, anger, anxiety, stress, self-esteem and confidence, body image, loss & bereavement, religious abuse, homesickness and displacement, and family conflict. I work with individuals from different backgrounds, but mostly from Middle-Eastern backgrounds because I speak Arabic as well.
