“Within the vulnerable vessel of myself, I hold all I need, have all I know”
Whole by Fleur Shepherd
Sometimes life confronts us with events that can turn life as we know it on its head. We can feel lost and estranged from who we thought we were, and how we normally manage and cope no longer works. Then there are times where we might not be able to pinpoint why we feel the way we feel, or if we can, it can feel like things will never change and becomes a struggle to navigate our lives.
Whatever the reason you are here, having been through this journey myself, I understand how daunting this first step can be, and also know how having a safe space to be heard and understood can be life changing.
Psychotherapeutic Counselling with Ailsa Ilott
Working with me:
Often there is a belief that we need to be ‘fixed’ or changed in some way, moving further away from what makes us unique to become who we, or society, think we should be. Through exploration of the mind, body and feelings for deepening self-awareness, I do not believe therapy is about changing who we fundamentally are but about change in perspective, learning to understand ourselves and those around us better, and accept that the answer has always been within us, that we are good enough.
I am an integrative Psychosynthesis counsellor and work relationally, meaning I work collaboratively, drawing on various approaches to suit you and our work together. I believe in the importance of looking to the past to understand our present to be able to envision a future we want, and that our personal histories and current situations do not mean we are stuck forever, our lives and relationships with others can grow in meaning and connection.
I offer weekly sessions as regularity and continuity are important for effective counselling and psychotherapy as it builds trust and gives a sense of structure to the process. My role is not to tell you want to do, I am here to walk with you, working empathically with non-judgement to listen and support you on your journey of self-discovery.
I am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP) and follow their code of ethics.
I see clients for short and long-term counselling.
